Messier 106 is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. It is approximately 24 million light-years away. It is also a Seyfert II galaxy. Due to x-rays and unusual emission lines detected, it is suspected that part of the galaxy is falling into a supermassive black hole in the centre.
The image was made using Atic One-6.0 CCD camera which has integral Off-Axis guiding, on an Altair 250mm RC telescope and Skywatcher AZ EQ6-GT mount. Luminance exposure was 170 minutes (in 10-min subs) and R,G,B exposures 15 minutes (in 5 min subs). Processed in Maxim DL to create the LRGB composite then in Photoshop for the final image.
